Let me just start this by saying I did not expect to like this as much as I did. I really picked this book up as a palate cleanser. The premise sounded interesting, and a supernatural romcom seemed like a good way to reset. Instead I find myself now looking for more books like this. From palate cleanser to genre definer.

Startup Hell follows Morgan as she navigates adulthood in a job she doesn’t really care for but being an adult means you require basic necessities and those require money. She also happens to come from a very famous family known for their magical prowess, except she can’t seem to do any magic. Just doesn’t have the knack for it. Just what any kid wants to hear. Her mom is a total badass in the magical community and is usually the one that is sent out to take care of any magical anomalies that occur, including dealing with the people involved.

Imagine Morgan’s surprise then to find her boss dead one night at work, with a demon in a summoning circle in front of him. Only for the demon to then get freed but, and here’s where it went in a direction I didn’t expect, the demon is just as confused as everyone involved and can’t get back. What follows is a very interesting and charming story of two people (?) kind of liking each other, being in forced proximity, some very interesting innuendo, a fascinating parallel between startups on earth and in hell, an antagonist who was actually pretty cool, and a mini hell hound that sounded adorable. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in romantasy, romance, and just cosy literature in general.
