I first found this game through a YouTube video around some relatively unknown switch games. It’s essentially a puzzle game where you are this barbarian who is travelling up this mountain. Each level signifies one step / level up this mountain with a ‘boss’ to battle every 15 levels or so. It’s not a small game nor is it always easy to breeze though. The game reminds me of candy crush in some ways.
The idea of the game is that you need to make your way to the exit which will only open when you meet certain conditions. The whole area is swarmed with monsters of different colours. You have to kill monsters by creating a chain of kills, but the monsters have to be the same colour. Creating a chain of kills will get you these gems which drop down on the field, and the longer the chain, the more gems you will receive. Collecting these gems during a chain will allow you to switch to a different coloured monster which can make your chain even longer. Simple enough right?
While the early levels are relatively straight forward, eventually you’ll find obstacles on the map, monsters which can attack a few spaces around them, monsters going crazy, and so much more, which actually gets you to think in order to complete all the objectives before shit hits the fan. You also have access to weapons and armour, with a limit on the number of times they can be used, either overall, or per round. It’s a fun game and it’s very forgiving as well, in that when you die you can trade in some collected gems for life and try again, and should you ever run out of gems, you can always go back and replay the earlier levels to get some stock.
The game has a high replayability because there’s no one solution to solve a level, and sometimes, its not possible to complete all the objectives of a level on the first try. Sometimes, you want to revisit a level just to have fun and see how long of a monster chain you can create. I’ve done a 40+ chain so far, and I’m curious how many more monsters are going to fall to my sword.
