Book Review: Under the Whispering Door – T.J. Klune

Under the Whispering Door looks at death and what comes after. Bleak as this sounds, this book is anything but. The story revolves around Wallace Price and how, after dying, is taken by the reaper to a tea-shop, as a way-stop, before he is to carry on his journey to eternal peace. The proprietor of the tea-shop, Hugo, also works as a ferryman for the dead, guiding them and helping them come to terms with being dead before passing on. What follows is a book about life, love, heartache, and the fact that there will never be enough time.

This is the second of T.J. Klune’s novels I’ve read and the second I’ve loved. Under the Whispering Door made me go though a rollercoaster of emotions I wasn’t ready to feel in the middle of the night, but should have come to expect from his novels. The story had me hooked from the beginning, and like “The House in the Cerulean Sea” was so easy to read. Very few books leave one with a sense of joy and heartache at the same time, and this is one such book. Will definitely be checking out more of T.J. Klune’s works after I’ve gotten over this beautiful book; which may take a while. 100% will recommend.

Rating: 5/5
