I don’t quite remember when I first watched Batman Beyond, but I do remember that it was something completely different from anything else I had watched at the time (animated series wise). It was dark. I mean the only batman shows I had watched prior to this were the Batman Animated Series (AMAZING!) and the Justice League (not bad), which were essentially cartoons meant for a young audience. Batman Beyond never felt that way. Maybe it was the opening theme that initially made me go ‘damn’ but Batman Beyond always felt ahead of its time (its time being my time as kid when I watched it). I loved the new suit, the older more serious Bruce Wayne, and the entire vibe of the show had me hooked.
I’ve been meaning to sketch Batman Beyond for a long time now, but either due to distractions or just plain forgetfullness it never happened. Until today. I had heard that a friend was a Batman fan and liked my sketches so I decided why not make another Batman sketch (God knows I love to draw Batman). But this time as I was looking for inspiration on what to sketch (cause I need a reference to draw. Not good enough to draw out of memory unfortunately), I came across a few Batman Beyond concept art which I really liked. So I decided the time had finally come. I sketched this on paper, first drawing the rough outline with a pencil, then going over that with a pen. Finally shaded in the shadowy areas with a skecthpen. I realised I didn’t have any other coloured sketchpens so had to resort to a red white board marker for the red areas.
Still trying to get better in terms of proportions and being able to draw quicker. This took close to two and a half hours I guess. Hope you like the finished piece! Cheers!
