Book Review: Borderlands: Debt or Alive – Anthony Burch

Note: This copy of Borderlands: Debt or Alive was provided by NetGalley.

If you’re looking for anything on a slightly absurd scale with a healthy dose of action and humour, the borderlands franchise never fails to disappoint. While the games were a bit much for me at the time, this book has me considering picking up the latest installment of the game.

Borderlands: Debt or Alive follows vault hunter sisters Fiona and Sasha as they finally achieve what they’ve always wanted; more money than they know what to do with. Having lived lives of constant danger and making ends meet, this sudden change in fortune seemed like a long time coming. But if something looks too good to be true, it probably is. The sisters find themselves at odds with their new found financial freedom and unfortunately with new enemies that don’t play the same games as they’re used. Wealthy aristocrats, suicide missions, slaves, and giant robot death machines are just a few of the lovely obstacles that seem to be thrown in the sisters’ paths.

Borderlands: Debt or Alive was really fun to read. The absurdity of certain scenarios along with the strong familial bond between the sisters kept me rooting for them through out the book. I want more stories of these two and am eagerly looking forward to finding out more about this vault hunter dynamic duo. Definitely recommended for sci-fi fans who like a bit of action, and a whole bucketload of humour.
