I believe I can thank booktube for this recommendation. The absurdity of the title and my current obsession with most things considered cosy fantasy and litrpg, made this one for the TBR list. Also being a Terry Pratchett fan, any form of comic-fantasy is something I find myself naturally gravitating to.
Book 1 – Orconomics

Orconomics is the first in what is called the Dark Profit Saga. It starts off by introducing us to an interesting caste of characters that form our party of heroes; as most fantasy heroic escapades require. My initial impressions were that of confusion as the author does very well in poking fun at the whole hero and villain trope but also touches on certain topics like addiction and depression, sometimes with a deftness that is required of such sensitive topics and other times like being punched by an orge. Surprisingly works well both times.
The story revolves around the economics of being heros and villains but this point is only ever made really clear towards the end of the book. That is also probably because it helps set up the future books.
The story was fun, characters fairly interesting, character dynamics really enjoyable, realistic scenarios in a fantastical world (called Arth, lol), all while the hero trope hits the mark. All in all, a throughly enjoyable read for me and I’m looking forward to the next book.

Book 2 – Son of a Liche

Son of a Liche continues the story of our band of ragtag heroes as they encounter ghosts from their past; or more like the undead. This book is a bit less enjoyable than the first as there seems to be a lot more talk around the whole economic aspect of being a hero in this world, but the rest of the plot was decentlt enjoyable. The plight of the NPCs in a world of heroes is more prevalent and it’s fairly obvious that this book is a buildup to the events in the final book of the trilogy, and we see our group go through some dramatic changes that make the final book all the more enticing to read.
Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series!

Book 3 – Dragonfired

The final book in the Dark Profit Saga brings everything to a fairly satifying conclusion. In this trilogy so far we’ve faced orcs, and the undead. You can’t have a fantasy trilogy of heroes against monsters without some mention of probably the most famous magical beast of them all, and so in this final book, our heroes go forward to face a dragon. But things are not all as it seems. What happens if the economics of this entire world is built off the presumption that a mythical dragon’s wealth is enormous, only to find that there is no wealth to speak of? This book ties up most of the loose ends and gives us a fairly satisfying ending to each of our hero’s (and NPC’s) stories. Far more entertaning than the last entry, and a lot more fast paced and enjoyable. This final book made the series all the more worthwhile to read.
Definitely recommended!
