Book Review: Legends and Lattes – Travis Baldree

I have been a fan of Travis Baldree ever since I heard his narration of Will Wight’s Cradle series as well as TurtleMe’s Beginning after the End series. When I found out he had his own book out, and it was a cozy fantasy, I just had to add it to my TBR. While it did sit there for a while, recently I found the right moment to pick it up and was not disappointed.

Legends and Lattes is, exactly as the tagline suggests, a high fantasy story with low stakes, and good company. The story follows Viv, an orc mercenary who has decided to leave her violent past behind to open a coffee shop in a small city. She soon discovers the ins and outs of starting a business, especially of an item no one had heard of till then, while meeting some interesting ‘people’ along the way.

The plot is quite simplistic but a lot of its charm comes from this very fact. Remember ‘low stakes’ in the tagline. This is a perfect story to lift anyone up and bring a smile to one’s face. Its a warm cozy book that breezes by leaving you wishing for more. I absolutely adore this book, the characters, the camaraderie, and I can already say this will remain among my favourite books of the year. Its a perfect entry into fantasy and even comic-fantasy to an extent. Do yourself a favour and go read this book, preferably with a cup of coffee in hand. Cheers!
