All-Star Superman is a 12 issue series from the famous Grant Morrison and Frant Quitely. Having been a fan of Grant Morrison’s Batman run I was excited to pick this up. This is probably the first standalone Superman comic I’ve read but in spite of that it seems unlikely that any other could surpass this collection. All-Star Superman follows the premise that Superman has a limited time to live and so we get a glimpse into how the Man of Steel spends his last days on Earth.

It is a self contained series so can be read on its own without having any prior knowledge. This makes it a very compelling and ideal starting point for anyone (read me) wanting to get into the Superman mythos. In this series we encounter memorable foes, explore the dynamics of relationships between pivotal characters, all the while witnessing a very human side to this kryptonian.

The comics are well written, making the stories easy to follow. The artwork is a treat and I have already found a few pieces to try and doodle later. I didn’t expect to enjoy a superman comic series as much as I did this one. Will definitely recommend this to anyone interested in reading about Superman or just love a good graphic novel in general.
