Series Review: Jack West Jr. #4, 5, 6 and 7 – Matthew Reilly

Once again we’re back in the world of Jack West Jr. Couldn’t wait to pick up these books after the first three. The seventh and final book of the series released in October of last year. The fourth book took some time in coming since it was released almost 7 years after book 3. The series has essentially been broken up into two arcs with the 4th book ‘The Four legendary kingdoms’ kind of bridging the gap and setting up the scenes for the final three books.

Since any individual review would stray into spoiler territory, I’m just going to give an overarching review of the final 4 books in the series. Fans of the series will not be disappointed. These books are just as explosive, just as over the top, just as fast-paced, and just as entertaining as the first three books have been. I do have to say though that I did enjoy the first three books a tad more than these four, but these were enjoyable nonetheless. Unlike the first three books I don’t know if I’d want to read these again. The fourth book is distinctly different from the last three and gives off a very Battle Royale vibe which is probably why I enjoyed it a bit more than the others.

I see a lot of people enquire if these books could be read as standalone books, and I would say no. There are so many plots that carry forward into the subsequent books in the series that, sure you ‘could’ read them on their own, but you will miss out on a lot and really not understand why any of the characters are even doing what they’re doing. So no, read them in order. Please.

All in all, a highly entertaining series that will keep you hooked until the very end. If anyone has any recommendations on similar books that I could pick up then please don’t hesitate to drop a comment. Until next time. Cheers!
