Book Review: Still Life (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #1) – Louise Penny

Keigo Higashino has me craving mystery books this year, so I picked up Still Life by Louise Penny in the hopes of something similar. This is the first book in the series, where we follow the exploits of Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, a member of the provincial police force of Quebec, as he solves mysteries in and around a small fictional canadian town called Three Pines. The story is a little slow but flows well enough to keep you engaged. Armand Gamache exudes a certain calmness about him and gave me very strong Hercule Poirot vibes, more so due to him being a native french speaker. Its a very cozy read that explores the relationships between the people in Three Pines slowly revealing who had the intent and the means to commit the crime. Not as amazing as any of Higashino’s books, in my opinion, but still enjoyable. Will definitely be picking up the other books in this series, especially when I need a light read.

Rating: 4/5
