Inktober 2021

It’s Inktober time, and again I find myself making plans to doodle. Hopefully, this time I’ll make it through the month. It’s been 3 years of me attempting this but not getting through more than a few sketches/doodles. I think the main problem for me in the past has been overcomplicating the prompt. Rather than simple doodles I always found myself spending more time looking for inspiration than actually doodling. I’ve never been good at drawing anything out of memory but give me a reference and I’m good to go. The search for a reference always seemed to take so much time that I’d be exhausted at the end. If not exhausted I usually ended up with a reference so complicated that the more I stare at it the more it feels like work and less like something fun.

This year though, I have a plan. I needed to think of a way to get references for prompts that were simple enough that they didn’t take forever to complete. I decided on sketching Pokemon. They check all the boxes and with enough variety that every prompt should be covered.

I’ll be uploading each of my inktober doodles to the blog along with a small write-up on the pokemon. Let’s see I’ll be able to follow through with this, or if this will be yet another year of a missed inktober. Until next time.

Cheers!
